Michael Kors (Karl Anderson, Jr.) was born on Long Island in 1959 and his creative skills emerged when he was still very young. At the age of five he even designed his mother's wedding dress for her second marriage with Bill Kors, from whom he takes his last name.
He enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, but he dropped out after a few months to design his first collection, which was discovered by the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury department store.
In 1981 Michael Kors founded his eponymous brand achieving great success, although with some difficulties.
In 2003 the original Michael Kors collection label was reborn, becoming a global retail force and a leader within the fashion world.
Many celebrities appreciate his creations and have dressed in Kors' designs in many occasions, including actresses on screen, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Uma Thurman, public figures during events, like Cate Middleton and Michelle Obama, or during his runaway shows like Blake Lively, Emily Blunt and Eva Herzigova.
His extraordinary talent was also recognised by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which in 2010 presented to Michael Kors the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award to honour his outstanding contributions to American Fashion.
